Data Mining and Data Warehousing
![]() Objective: Developments in the transaction processing has given rise to a situation where the amount and rate of data capture is very high. But the processing of this data into information is not developing at the same pace. So we discuss the techniques that helped overcoming this problem. Introduction: Data Mining: Data mining is the process of extracting information from company's various databases and reorganizing it for purposes other than what the databases were originally intended for. Data Warehousing: Data Warehousing can be defined as a single, complete and consistent store of data obtained from a variety of different sources made available to end users in a way they can understand and use in a business context Advantages: Data Mining helps in understanding the needs of the customer effectively and provide service accordingly. Data Warehousing is used to Integrate data from multiple sources. Performing new type of analysis. Reducing cost to access historical data. Limitations: DM and DW is an expensive technology. It is time consuming. The users must be domain specialist. Effective utilization of data mined is upto the organization. Less secure( i.e., Misuse of information). Conclusion: Data warehousing and data mining is just one of the techniques an organization can use to discover knowledge. There are other ways of discovering knowledge like customer’s web page, social networking sites, etc. So using of DM and DW is left to the organizations.

DATA WAREHOUSING and DATA MINING
![]() Information A process of transforming data into information and making it available to users in a timely enough manner to make a difference Data Warehousing -- It is a process Technique for assembling and managing data from various sources for the purpose of answering business questions. Thus making decisions that were not previous possible A decision support database maintained separately from the organization’s operational database Data Warehouse—Subject-Oriented Organized around major subjects, such as customer, product, sales. Focusing on the modeling and analysis of data for decision makers, not on daily operations or transaction processing. Provide a simple and concise view around particular subject issues by excluding data that are not useful in the decision support process. Data Warehouse—Non-Volatile A physically separate store of data transformed from the operational environment. Operational update of data does not occur in the data warehouse environment. Does not require transaction processing, recovery, and concurrency control mechanisms Requires only two operations in data accessing: in itial loadin g of data and access of data.

DATA MINING ANDDATA WARE HOUSING
![]() ABSTRACT In this world of exponential growth of data, accessing the desired information or the extraction of knowledge from data is called Data Mining or KDD (Knowledge Discovery Analysis). KDD has been mostly used by artificial intelligence and machine learning researchers. Data Warehousing is a repository of data gathered from multiple sources stored under a unified schema at a single site. Data Warehouse design using star and snowflake schemas. INTRODUCTION In today’s fiercely competitive market place, companies have an insatiable need for information. A Database is a collection of non-redundant data which is sharable between different applications. DATA MINING Data Mining is defined as “the non-trivial extraction of implicit, previously unknown, potentially useful and understandable knowledge from data” Applications of Data mining Data mining and customer relationship management(CRM) software for solving business decision problems Fraud detection in Telecommunications and stock exchanges Airline reservation to maximize seat utilization DATA WAREHOUSING A Data Warehouse is a relational database that is designed for query and analysis rather than for transaction processing. Conclusion Data Mining has a bright and promising future, and that the years to come will bring many new developments methods, and technologies. Data Warehouse usually contains historical data derived from transaction data, but it can include data from other sources.
