Abstracts: Infrared distance sensor based car, provides warning at specific distance, led blinks at lesser distance, slows down at even lesser distance and also applies brake to stop the vehicle when collision seems eminent. The system continuously monitors the distance between itself and the vehicle ahead of it. When the distance decreases beyond a set value, a voice alert is sounded to proceed with caution. If the distance decreases further, another voice alert and now with haptic feedback (vibration) is sounded insisting the driver to slow down and in the process slows down the vehicle by itself. If the distance decreases further, the system applies brakes automatically. Controller used is 89s52 along with ADC0804, motor driver is L293D and distance sensor is Sharp 2Y0A21 IR rangefinder module. The audio feedback is provided by APR9600 audio recorder/ playback chip. The motors used to drive the car are two 100 rpm dc geared motors.
