Abstracts: Material handling is unavoidable process an integral part of production process. It involves piling, loading, unloading and transporting parts of raw materials from one place to another. Starting from the point raw material enters the factory gate and goes out of the factory in the form of finished products it is the handle at all stages in between, from the stores to shop, from one shop to another or from one machine to another on the shop floor. Material handling is vital component of any manufacturing and distribution system specifically in cement, steel, fertilizers, engineering manufacturing industries, pressure vessel manufacturing, milk and dairies, etc. Cranes are generally used in material handling and have a wide application in construction projects, industries and shipping etc. Electric Overhead Travelling (EOT) Cranes are very important parts of material handling in industries and it is very fast moving handling equipment. These are use for lifting the loads ( may be constructions, loose materials, packages, containers , finished and semi- finished products in industries etc. ) and placing the desired place. Because of its wide applications and important in industries we have selected this topic as our project of study. In this project initially a brief summary of material handling and overview of various material handling equipment are discussed. Then specifically EOT Crane and its components are deeply described. And finally the design calculations of EOT Crane components are covered.
