1-Wire Introduction
Designed by Dallas Semiconductor Corp
Bidirectional, Half Duplex, Serial signaling protocol – single connection
Single master connected to one or more slaves
Two serial communication speeds:
Standard – 15.4kbps; Overdrive – 125kbps
Factory programmed, unique unalterable ID in every device
1-Wire Signaling
Communication with Time slots = binary ‘0’, ‘1’
Slaves self clocked from master edges
Uses controlled low duration time pulses to encode binary 0s and 1s
‘1’ – Transmitted as short, low duration time slot
‘0’ – Transmitted as long, low duration time slot
Benefits & Applications
Benefits
Single contact sufficient for control and operation
Unique ID Factory-Lasered in each Device
Power drived from signal bus (parasitically powered)
Supports multiple devices on single line
Applications
Print cartridge ID
Security control applications
