DESCRIPTION
An automobile, motor car or car is a wheeled motor vehicle used for
transporting passengers, which also carries its own internal combustion engine
or motor.
The internal combustion engine of an automobile requires a combustible
mixture, a compression stroke, and a form of ignition in addition to a minimum
initial starting speed (about 100 rpm) in order to start and continue running,
thereby running the automobile.
A starting mechanism, electrical generally, imparts the necessary initial speed
of cranking to facilitate starting of the engine.
The working of the starting system is influenced by many factors such as the
rated voltage, the type of engine, the starting limit temperature, the torque
required for cranking, battery characteristics, the voltage drop between the
battery and the starter etc.
Depending upon the type of the engine employed the automobile stopping
system would turn it off by either short circuiting the spark plug or by stopping
the supply of fuel to the combustion chamber.
