To increase data storage capacity by using the space within the crystal that is been used in 1-D and 2-D storage device.
To get less susceptible to hacking, data theft problem and data loss due to external strain.
Speed retrieval, transfer and search of data.
Accurate reference of required address within a crystal with page of information.
To avoid multiple read/write head complexity.
The process for encoding data onto the signal beam is accomplished by a device called a spatial light modulator (SLM).
The SLM translate the electronics data of 0’s and 1’s into an optical “checkerboard” pattern of light and dark pixels.
Light from a single laser beam is split into two beams, the signal which carries the data and the reference beam.
HOW IT WORKS?
First there is an urgent need of translating electronic code of 0’s and 1’s to light beam of light and dark pixel pattern.
So the above work is done through SLM and storage medium.
Here the intersection of both light beam from SLM on crystal cause to form holograms into the bulk of the crystal.

Performance and Advantages
Maximum data storage limits we have reached today 15.9G.B on a double-layer, doubled sided DVD.180 GB on hard disk.
Whereas this system that can store about a terabyte of information (that’s over 15,000 CDs!) on the crystal the size of a sugar cube!
The multi-layer system is optically transparent and homogeneous .
