Foreword
RUBM which stands for Rail & Universal Beam Mill is one of the finishing Mill at Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) which a 2.4 Million Ton Integrated Steel Plant located at Raigarh (C.G.). The Plant adhering to “Green Productivity” is located in an area of 1800 Acres with beautiful greenery and gardens. The various manufacturing Units are Sponge Iron Plant – JSPL is the largest Coal based Sponge Iron plant in the world with capacity of 1.3 Million TPA. Blast Furnace (1x4000 TPD): 1 x 1000, Non-recovery type Coke Ovens, Sinter Plant, Lime & Dolo Plant, Steel Melting Shops, RUBM, Plate Mill and Beam Welding Plant. The associated facilities include Producer Gas Plants, Oxygen Plant, Crane Manufacturing Divn and Central Maintenance Services.
RUBM is a capacity of 0.75 Million TPA and is the first in the country to produce Parallel Flange medium & heavy Beams and columns, used extensively all over the world in infrastructure projects It also has the pride to be the producer of the longest rolled rails in the world of 120 mtrs. The Flash-Butt Welding Plant is also a part of this unit which can Butt weld 4 nos of 120 m rails to produce a single length of 480 m rails. This will be requirement for the future as our country is progressively inching towards high speed rails and dedicated freight movement.
Walking Beam Reheating Furnace
It is a type of furnace which is used to heat the raw materials or stocks so that they can be hot rolled into the beams, channels, structures as per the requirements. This furnace has the capacity of 120 mt/hr, and its dimension is as follows in length it is 32.5m, width it is 10.8m. The bloom length used is around 9.2m or less than that because if more length of bloom is used then it would get struck in the furnace. There are 40 total no of burners in the furnace. The oil which is used in this furnace is Heavy Furnace Oil (HFO) and the gas used is mixture of the Blast Furnace Gas and Producer Gas. These are required because oil is required for the initial firing and gas is used to maintain the temperature up to a required level. This furnace can carry 64 bloom at a time during continuous rolling.
Primary Descaler
In Hot Rolling Mill at the time of heating of material, ferrous and ferric oxides are generated on the surface of material. Before entering the mill it becomes necessary to remove this scale for surface finishing. For removal of scale, high water pressure is used. This pressure is generated by high pressure reciprocating pump. The approximate pressure supplied is around 258 bar. The pressure is generated with the help of 2-3 pumps.
Number of pumps is decided on the requirement of the water flow. Under roller table, scale pit is required which is approximately 12m deep from ground level. To flush away this scale, approximate 7-8 bar water pressure is used where the flow is very high. Whole scale is collected in a separate pit and from that pit, scale is loaded in the vehicle with the help of a grab bucket crane
