ABSTRACT
The dissertation is a case study management project based on a metal stamping company Trend Singapore. The study focus on Trend Singapore operational problems and a strategic review of where it is today, where it going tomorrow, it examines the production and quality management of the company and recommend the planning methodology, strategy, systems needed to be in place to bring Trend Singapore to greater level of growth and profitability.
The case study begins with the literature review about some of the contemporary management philosophy, methodology to serve as the basic for analysis of Trend Singapore’s problems. These include ERP system, diagnostic tools and Total quality management. The implications and relevance of each of these topics to the study are examined in an effort to form the basis for trend Singapore to establish strategy and action programs for implementation.
As a strong point of analysis, a review of metal stamping industry was carried out to understand (a) the type of structure the industry is subscribing to (b) the competitive nature of the industry © the critical success factors associated with the industry. The objective is to have a comprehensive overview of the industry itself thereby subsequent analysis can draw references.
The case study then goes on to the analysis of Trend Singapore marketing environment. Here the focus was on (a) the general economic environment. (b) Trend Singapore’s competitors. © Trend Singapore customer and (d) a SWOT analysis of Trend Singapore. Essentially, this is an audit of the key factor external as well as internal to Trend Singapore that will have strategic implications over its operation.
Having a general understanding of Trend Singapore’s problem, the characteristic of metal stamping industry and an audit of the factor of strategic options wan then carried out. The objective is to identify the appropriate strategy as the strategic thrust so that Trend Singapore would be able to steer clear of its direction in which supporting board action programs can then be devised for implementation.
The concluding chapter further developed from the preceding chapter to recommend the type of specified actions needed in support of those broad action programs that will form the strategic thrust for Trend Singapore. A strategic Plan is included for presenting to the top management for considerations.
