Introduction
This article sheds light upon the present education system in India.
Most of the colleges under Delhi University are using astronomical cut-offs in their admission processes.
The present education system in India is clearly demeaning and demoralising students.
A travesty of education
A Delhi based college has introduced a 100 % cut-off in their admission process showing the present competition nature in the education system.
Japan is considered to have the most student suicides and at this rate India is sure to put up a competition.
Ignoring consistency
Students are not evaluated for their overall performance throughout the year but by a single examination at the end of it.
Even if the students get through good colleges , the quality of education they receive in Indian colleges is substandard.
Major Failure
India ranks 4th on the list of the most dangerous countries for women because of its high levels of female foeticide, child marriage, trafficking ,etc.
India has deeply rooted scourges like caste , religious extremism , gender inequality and regionalism.
Time to Change..
First, do away with marks and the absurd practice of ranking system.
Introduction of grading system that evaluates the student performance over the course of the year.
Teaching should be a better paid job so as to attract the best and the brightest of the society.
Something that grooms a student to be an upstanding member of the community.
Conclusion
The present education system should be put into a lot scrutiny because of its unorthodox methods of admission.
The system tends to demoralize students of average intelligence.
Factors such as aptitude, ability, interest in extra-curricular activities and other skills are completely ignored.
