Introduction
In this present day business world, Training and development plays a vital role
Without training and development nothing can be efficient and effective.
Each and every business to be more successful and to have sound management it
should concentrate on its employees training and development.
Training and development enables its employees to increase the market value of the
organization and also for their job security . The problem of organization relating to its
employees performance can be achieved through training and development.
In training , the trainer will change the behavior of the employees if they become
aware of better ways of performing and gain experience in the new pattern of Behavior.
On the other hand development leads to an improvement in managerial effectives
through planned process of learning. Development plays as an self motivated induction
program.
Planned development programs leads to increase productivity, reduced cost and
flexibility to adopt the organization to the changing external requirements.
Importance of Training
One or two rainmakers cannot carry you through the period to come. We
need more employees out.
The need for employee training hinges on how many firm rainmakers you
want. Rainmakers are generally self – taught and their methods, although effective, may not
be the one that novice people should learn adopt . Professionals, however , can train
employees to make their roles easier for them , to reduce the time commitment and to “fix
their game”.
Employees working style is not a natural skill, but can develop it and the
results are trained employees who consistently develop clients more effectively and
profitably.
Statement of the problem
Though TAC conducts training program in a regular slot, it was felt that
the content in the course modules and the presentation of the schedule was not focused. As a
result the training and development program were not optimized to the full extent which the
management felt should be.
Being a production industry, perfection was the main motto behind every
action. The training programs that were executed were found to be minimum time
consuming, which could be extended so that most of the employees in TAC are benefited by
these training programmes. And it was felt that these programs did not give emphasis to
perfection based modules which was the need of the hour.
Company Profile
Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd-TAC, is a joint sector company promoted by
Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation(TIDCO) and Southern Petrochemical
Industries Corporation Ltd. (SPIC), primarily for the manufacture of 66,000 Te per annum
each of soda ash chemical and ammonium chloride fertilizer, at a project cost of Rs. 53.20
crores. The commercial production started on 1-11-82.
The capacity of the plant was increased to produce 73,000 Te of soda ash
and 67,200 Te of ammonium chloride per annum by debottlenecking scheme in 19889.67,200
Te of ammonium Chloride per annum by debottlenecking scheme in 1989.
TIDCO and SPIC have signed an MoU on 10-05-1991 and as per this
MoU, the Management of the company has been taken over by SPIC from TIDCO.
Presently, the company has been taken over by SPIC from TIDCO. Presently, the Company
is managed by SPIC.
The capacity of the plant was again increased to 1,15,000 te of soda ash
and 1,05,000 Te of ammonium Chloride per annum by substantial expansion scheme in
October 1999.
Environment Management in TAC
TAC is the only company successfully manufacturing soda ash and ammonium chloride(FG)
by adopting dual technology in India. The dual technology has distinct advantage of reducing
solid waste generation over the conventional solvay technology. Over the years of its
operation, TAC has made significant strides in improving its environmental performance with
better utilization of resources and reduce environmental impact by adopting latest
advancements in its manufacturing processes.
TAC towards sustainability:
TAC has set a challenging objective in its progress towards sustainable development and zero
discharge of effluents. The strategy is to use scientific, engineering and technical skills to
develop basic system for achieving a balance between production and environment. In this
context, ammonium chloride from waste liquor generated from the plants. This has reduced
considerably the solid effluent generated from the plants.
Prevention and control of accidental emission:
While the above-mentioned steps are taken to prevent and control routine
emissions, even greater safeguards are adopted to prevent accidental emissions. Hazards
study, safety audits and risk analyses are carried out periodically. The recommendations from
these studies are implemented and reviewed frequently.
British Safety Council, a premier safety organization, has awarded the sword of Honour’
Award-an Oscar of safety, to TAC. Though an occurrence of accidental emissions is very
remote, a detailed emergency preparedness plan has been developed to act swiftly and
efficiently to control the release and minimise the damage to the environment. Emergency
mock drills are conducted periodically to review and update the plan of action.
