Abstract
Mobile agents are a promising model for distributed computing and has been exploited in several areas of applications. One of those areas that may benefit from the use of mobile agent technology is parallel processing. This Agent discovery describes a Java-based platform that provides some support for parallel computing. We have implemented a special module to support the well-known Master/Worker model and we have exploited the use of this model in some distributed tasks. We will present some experimental results that compare the Master/Worker model with the usual model of migratory agents. Then, we will also compare the use of mobile agents with other two solutions for parallel processing (e.g. MPI). All the results and techniques that will be presented in this paper were implemented in a mobile agent platform but can also be applied to other existing platforms of mobile agents.
