History
UNIX was developed at Bell Labs in 1969, but in the past three decades many others have contributed to its evolution.
In reality, UNIX is not so much a single operating system as it is a standard upon which organizations and companies base their own systems.
Examples of UNIX implementations include AIX (IBM), Solaris (Sun Microsystems), IRIX (SGI), BSD/OS (BSDi), and Linux (GNU).
Introduction
UNIX is an operating system which was developed and has been under constant development ever since.

Unix is another operating system of which is similar to DOS and windows.
What is UNIX?
It arrived earlier than other two operating systems and stayed back late enough to give the internet facility to users.
It is giant operating system.
It has all the features that a normal operating systems has. It also includes some features that other operating system.
It runs on practically every hardware and provided inspiration to the open source movement.
This operating system also makes many demands of the user. It can be easily operated by a normal users.
COMMONDS
date – display the current date and time.
cal – The cal utility writes a Gregorian calendar to standard output.
diff – display differences between text files.
