CASE STUDY CONDUCTED BY TEXTILE COMMITTEE
In 2004 it’s estimated that the total employment in apparel industry at the supervisory and shop floor level [for 2003] to be 4.58 million and expected to grow up to 6.62 million by 2010 with the growth rate of 10% per year, out of which supervisory level personnel command a share of about 10% while the share of shop floor level revolves around 90%. It’s widely acknowledged that there is an immense untapped potential for growth in the garment sector. The exporters have generally been catering to the lower end of the international market and our unit value realization is much less than what many countries have been able to achieve. In order to achieve the quality, sufficient growth in the sector, the trained workers are required and for that purpose, ATI’s are being established at different parts of the country, where garment industry is concentrated.
