Due to the meager rains in last two years in Purandar area, the area is facing the dearth of water. All the sources of water like Dams, Reservoirs and Wells are running dry.
Through geographical perspective, the region is deprived of the rains. The measures like supply of water through Tankers, Hand Pumps , Temporary arrangements and special maintenance needs to be taken as the severity of famine increases. Even after implementing such measures, as the sources of waters run dry, every year the region always face the dearth of potable water. To address this problem, there is a strong need of long-term, planned and definite measures. Water and Soil conservation work can show the good impact on this. Already the water conservation work has been done in Purandar Area. There are large number of percolating reservoirs, town reservoirs and Kolhapur type dam. Currently due to improper keeping and care of those resources for last many years, it leads to wear and tear and silt, which lowers the accommodating capacity of those resources. It will increase the ground water level if we increase the accommodating capacity of those resources.
For this, project of de-silting of all the percolating reservoirs, town reservoirs and Kolhapur type dam, ravines and nullahs and straightening and deepening of nullahs is under taken. This will solve the severe problem of Potable Water in future due to increase in the ground water level.
As far as the scope of the work is concerned, there should be the contribution and active involvement from each and every elements of the society in this operation.
Therefore Administration is appealing all the elements of the society to voluntarily take the initiative in the de-silting operation. For this, participation from the citizens, Voluntary Institutions, Businessmen, Non Banking Finance Corporations and the owners of the essential machineries required in such work like JCBs, Poclain, Dumpers, Tractors etc. is necessary. In the natural calamities like famine, as a member of the society, it is the responsibility and the duty of everybody to participate in such a operation. I am confident that we can transverse the situation of famine in future if we will work unitedly in this operation.
