APPLICATIONS OF NETWORK TECHNOLOGY FOR CNC MACHINING EQUIPMENT

Abstract
In this paper, the frameworks of DNC integrated
manufacturing system based on Ethernet and the CAN
fieldbus are proposed. The information integration
platform, which is controlled and managed by the
CNC machining equipment is built, and the technical
support for the realization of rational allocation of
resources, rapid response to market and reducing
manufacturing cost of the products is provided.
Introduction
Networked manufacturing is the main production
mode in the manufacturing of the 21st Century[1]. The
key of the networked manufacturing realization is the
implementation of integrated control and management
of the numerical control processing equipment. So the
DNC integrated manufacturing systems based on
Ethernet and the CAN fieldbus are designed and the
information integration platform system which is
controlled and managed by the CNC machining
equipment is constructed. Meanwhile, in order to
achieve the rational allocation of the equipment
resources, to shorten the cycle of product development,
to improve product quality, to reduce product
manufacturing costs and to enhance competition in the
market capable for the enterprise they provide the
technical support.
The DNC integrated manufacturing
system based on Ethernet
The DNC integrated manufacturing system based
on Ethernet is a integrated manufacturing control and
production management system which is integrated
product design, process design, processing
manufacture, production management. In the system,
the local area network(Ethernet) can be used to rational
allocation and information sharing for CNC machining
equipment and achieve the seamless integration of
enterprise management and production operations
management[2]. The system framework is shown in
Figure 1.
Composition and function of the system:
The data
is transmitted between the DNC computer and the top
of the computer through the bridge in the integrated
manufacturing system. There are two ways between
the DNC computer and the lower numerical control
processing equipment for the communication. First, all
types of CNC equipment that interface is in line with
the MAP standard can be direct communication with
DNC computer. Second, all types of CNC equipment
with RS232 serial port must realize communication
with the DNC computer through the switch. The 24
switches can connect up to 24 CNC lathe, CNC milling
machines, machining centers, CNC EDM and other
CNC equipment. And the 8 switches connect the tool
presenter, CMM auxiliary equipment and other CNC
manufacturing auxiliary equipment. According to the
manufacturing tasks issued by production management,
the numerical control machine tool operators can
search online and download processing which is in
own machine operated directory to directly machine
parts.
The DNC integrated manufacturing
system based on CAN fieldbus
CAN in industrial environment as a communication
standard level is suitable the equipment
interconnection of facilities, particularly in the face of
the enterprise as a result of the type of numerical
control equipment and the different manufacturers, the
configuration of the CNC system is different and the
data transmission interface as well as communication
protocol of the status quo is not the same, based on the
CAN fieldbus the Heterogeneous NC DNC
communication system can be realized[4]. The system
framework is show in Figure 2.
Composition and function of the system: The
integrated manufacturing system is composed of the
CAD/CAM workstations, CAPP workstations,
management computer, DNC Host, CAN control unit
and the network card and so on. DNC host with the
CAN network interface card is the core of the whole
system. The CNC equipment with MAP system
interface can be directly connected to the enterprise
LAN.
Conclusions
The technology of the control and management of
CNC machining equipment based on network not only
achieve the orderly management of CNC machining
process, remote monitoring of the CNC equipment
processing, real-time scheduling and adjustments in the
production process can also be issued so that the
production plan, production of information collection
and statistical analysis are in line to achieve. The
results of an effective production process to improve
the level of automation to increase productivity and
improve the production management level.
