This Dissertation illustrates the functionality of WireShark as a sniffing tool in networks. This Dissertation is intended to the Students. Especially those who learn the Advanced Networks to get actual visualization of network layers and packet sniffing. Packet Sniffing is an important part of a network Study. It is often used to “dig down” into the specific traffic traversing a network. Because of this, it is important that a packet capturing method provides a correct view of how the network acts. This study shows the general working of a WireShark to capture a packet in network, how the packet is stored, in which format the captured packet is stored, and how the user can analyze the packet captured. This Study also refers to the portability issues of WireShark and the network Statistics provided by the WireShark.
