BELT, ROPE AND CHAIN DRIVE
ROPE AND CHAIN DRIVE.pptx (Size: 124.23 KB / Downloads: 37)
INTRODUCTION:-
Power is developed from IC engine or by motor.
The power is transmitted from driving shaft to driven shaft by a process is called Transmission.
Usually power is transmitted from one shaft to other shaft by 4 drives.
CHARACTERSTICS OF BELT, ROPE AND CHAIN DRIVE
Used for long distance power drive
These are flexible and positive drive
These are made from small rigid link having relative motion between them
Power transmission occurs due to friction between belt and pulley
These are strained during the motion as tension developed in them.
Velocity ratio of belt and rope are not constant.
But the velocity ratio of chain and gear are not constant.
These are space and velocity dependant.
BELT MATTERIAL:-
It is available in two types i.e. qak tanned and chrome tanned
Qak tanned is mostly used
Chrome tanned is used in case of chemically handling machine and oil surface
TYPES OF BELT DRIVES
Open belt drive.
Cross belt drive
Quarter turn belt drive.
Belt drive with idler pulley.
Compound belt drive.
Fast and loose pulley.
Cone pulley.
Guide pulley drive.
Limitation of chain drive:
It has high weight.
It requires high precise alignment.
It requires more frequent maintenance and service.
It can used for velocity ratio 1:8, velocity of 25m/s and power ratio upto 11 kw.
