BIOREMEDIATION OF LAKE.pptx (Size: 1.67 MB / Downloads: 54)
Introduction
Water is a valuable commodity for the individuals which is now being polluted by the anthropogenic activities
Polluted water cause high mortality rate in infants and adults due to water born diseases.
The present work focus the lake treatment to purify the polluted water of lake through bioremediation.
OBJECTIVES
Removal of pollutants load from the lake.
To suppress the foul odour and vector population
To enhance the water quality of lake
To restore the ecological & pristine condition of aquatic lives
To maintain the ecological balance of lake ecosystem
To return the ethical value of lake.
BIOREMEDIATION ?
In situ bioremediation involves treating the contaminated material at the site, while ex situ involves the removal of the contaminated material to be treated elsewhere.
Results & Discussion
The DO of lake prior to treatment was 3.1 mg/l, which was significantly increased to 4.9 mg/l after treatment and showed better condition for fish population.
Significant reduction in BOD was achieved, this is due to increase in DO content which support oxidative mechanism of microbes to organic load.
Significant reduction of COD was achieved due to removal of inorganic compounds.
Reduction in turbidity seems to be significant and it would increase plant growth in the lake due to increase in high photosynthetic activity.
Conclusion & future recommendation
The physical appearance of polluted lake water after treatment showed greater transparency than before treatment due to decreased in turbidity and also decreased the value of TDS and TSS indicate the healthiness of tested water ecosystem.
This bioremediation technique may useful for the treatment of waste water like drains, rivers, ponds, and ETP/STP plants
