About Chairman
Mr. Sunil Bharti Mital, is the chairman and Group Managing Director of Bharti Tele ventures. He is a graduate of Punjab University and has completed the “Owner/President Management Programme” from Harvard Business School in 1999. He started his career in 1976 by setting up an unit to manufacture bicycle components. In 1986, he partnered with siemens to produce telephone equipment. When the telecommunications sector was opened for private sector participation, Mr. Mittal took advantage of the opportunity and acquired two cellular license and one fixed line license, He is the founder, past president and chairman of various telecom industry associations such as Cellular Operator Association of India, Association of Basic Telecom Operators, Telecom Equipment Manufactures Association of India from 1990 to 1996 and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Telecom Committee. He is member of the steering committee and Executive Committee. He is Co-Chairman of the Indo-US joint Business Council. He is the Honorary Council of the Republic of Seychelles in India. He was selected as “Business man of the year 2002” by business India magazine . He was chosen as “Dataquest IT Man of the year 2002” by Dataquest magazine. He was awarded Telecom Man f the year award of communication world and IT Ratna of the millennium by Wisitex Foundation in 29000. He has recently been chosen as one of the “Star of Asia” by business week for the year 2001. In January 2001, Mr. Mittal was selected as one of the top global entrepreneurs f the year 2000 by business week.
The group has been structured to create functional and operational specialization with a linear vision of business lines and functional areas.
The company is headed by Chairman and group Managing Director – Sunil Bharti Mittal Why is assisted by two joint managing Directors – Akhil Gupta and Rajan Bharti Mittal. The company also has two president Mobile services and president infotel services , this responsibility includes fixed line, long distance and broadland services. The presidents report to the group chairman and managing director. The head of units and SBUs report to the respective business’s president.
An apex team of corporate directors has been constituted. The corporate directors have supervisory and strategic responsibilities for functional areas across business lines. The directors oversee functional areas including business development, Human resources marketing, coporate strategy & planning an supervisory director cum chief mentor – mobility.
