Why Biometrics Used ?
To Eliminate duplicates
To Assign unique ID for Citizen
Helps goverernment to deliver welfare scheme effectively
Helps to implement quick service’s
Physiological Biometric Types :
1 . Facial
2 .Finger Print
3 . Iris
FACE
Facial recognition works on the system of identifying “9” geometric points
Facial recognition camera may not be able to distinguish between identical twins
Fingerprints
High “False Acceptance Rates” (about 1:100,000) for Identification
Huge Hardware set up required for Fingerprint de-duplication
Difficulty in enrolling children below 12 years and old people above 60 years.
In Indian environment, Failure to Enroll (FTE) is as high as 15% due to the prevalence of a large population dependent on manual labour.
Fingerprints are susceptible to noisy or bad data, such as inability of a scanner to read dirty fingerprints clearly
Iris
Iris recognition is easily the most accurate of the top three biometrics recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization and the industry at large.
Iris recognition has a false accept rate of 1 in 1.2 million for one eye (1 in 1.44 trillion for two eyes) .
Facial recognition systems measure 9 geometric points, fingerprint systems measure about 35-80 minutiae points, while Iris recognition systems incorporate 256 characteristic points.
