introduction
Internet is the network of networks.
Bluetooth ,an example of ad-hoc network is a true wireless, automatic and inexpensive technology used for both synchronous and asynchronous traffic.
Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET) is a collection of independent mobile nodes that can communicate to each other via radio waves.
The mobile nodes that are in radio range of each other can directly communicate, whereas others needs the aid of intermediate nodes to route their packets.
history
Ad-hoc networks date back to seventies. They were developed by the defence forces , to comply with a military framework. The aim was to rapidly deploy a robust , mobile and reactive network , under any Circumstances. These networks then proved useful in commercial and industrial fields, first aid operations and explorations missions. Ad-hoc networks, also called peer-to-peer networks, still have a long way to go in order to be fully functional and commercial, as it has its defects such as security and routing which we will discuss further.
Tcp/ip protocol suite
The TCP/IP protocol suite is the protocol architecture of the Internet
The TCP/IP suite has four layers: Application, Transport, Network, and Data Link Layer
Functions of the Layers
Data Link Layer
Functions
Reliable transfer of
frames over a link
Media Access Control on a LAN
Network Layer
Functions
Routing, addressing
Move packets from source host to destination host
Transport Layer
Functions
Delivery of data between hosts.
Connection establishment/termination, error control, flowcontrol.
Application Layer
Functions
Application specific (delivery of email, retrieval of HTML documents, reliable
