Introduction - Clutch
Machine member that connects the driving shaft to a driven shaft.
Provides an interruptible connection between two rotating shafts.
Connects the engine and the gear box in automobiles.
How a Clutch works?
When a rider presses the clutch lever:
1.Coil springs get compressed.
2.Pressure plates expand.
3.It then disengages power to transmission.
Diff. between single and multi plate clutch
In single plate clutches we have one pair of contacting surfaces but in multi plate clutch we have more number of contacting surfaces.
multi plate clutch we have more torque transmitting capacity.
single plate clutches are bigger in size than multi plate clutches.
more heat is generated and dissipated due to greater number of contacting surfaces than single plate clutches in multi plate clutches.
Diaphragm Clutches
It is a single thin sheet of metal which yields when pressure is applied to it.
When pressure is removed the metal springs returns to its original shape.
Most commonly used Clutch.
