ABSTRACT
The study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of nursing care for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Government Hospital, kancheepuram. Descriptive research design is adopted, the sample consists of 30 patients and the subjects were selected using convenience sampling technique. Nursing care was given to the patients in the following Vital parameters, Oxygen administration, Steam inhalation, Nebulization, Effective coughing, Respiratory muscle training, Demonstration of deep breathing exercises, Psychological support, Administration of drugs and Education on COPD for ten days continuously morning and evening. The effective were assessed by using Structured Assessment Scale. The overall data analysis and interpretation shows that the nursing care was highly significant at p<0.05 level. During assessment 83.3%(25) patients were in severe health deviation after the nursing care 76.7% (23)of patients were in normal health. The effectiveness of nursing care of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were associated with demographical variables. The study shows that there is no significant between any variables. The study shows that the nursing care is very effective in the improvement of respiratory functions of the patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
INTRODUCTION
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a devastating disorder that causes a huge degree of human suffering. COPD is currently the fourth leading cause of death. Mortality rates for patients aged 26-65 years as per the latest census, were 200/ 1,00,000 males and 80/1,00,000 females. Internationally, a marked variation in overall mortality rates from COPD exists. Worldwide data is higher because more than 1.2 billion humans are exposed to the ravages of smoking .So it is important to prevent by giving effective nursing care.
OBJECTIVES
1. To assess the health status of the patient with COPD
2. To implement the nursing care for patients with COPD
3. To evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care for patients with COPD .
4. To find out the association between demographic variable and effectiveness of nursing care for patients with COPD.
PRESENTATION OF THE FINDINGS
The overall data analysis and interpretation shows that the nursing care was highly significant at p<0.05 level. During assessment 83.3%(25) patients were in severe health deviation after the nursing care 76.7% (23)of patients were in normal health. The effectiveness of nursing care of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were associated with demographical variables. The study shows that there is no significant between any variables.
CONCLUSION
The study shows that the nursing care is very effective in the improvement of respiratory functions of the patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
