Combined Cycle Power Plant
Abstract
Electricity is now essential in every house, office, factory, mall & even a small shop and this is due to the large increase in the world’s population and the rapid growth of technology and so this leads high demand of electricity production. One of the most important factors affecting the production of electricity is the fuel consumed for this production and the cost of this fuel consumed captures a large percentage of the production of electricity.
We plan to save the energy produced from thermal power plants & reducing the cost of unit energy and this could only happen when increasing the overall efficiency where the output electrical power increases and the input fuel consumption remains constant and so we can save a lot of generated electrical power .this could happen by using waste heat recovery steam generators which captures the exhaust gases discharged from the gas turbine which possess high temperature & use these hot gases to convert water into superheated steam generates energy when passed on a steam turbine. These process should happen under well studied control system to control the different cycle parameters (Pressure, Temperature, Flow rate).
An analysis will be carried out on the important parameters which have an effect on performance and efficiency in both gas turbine and combined cycles, to facilitate analysis process we converted mechanical equations for a combined cycle power plant study case to MATLAB code with easy user interface, this interface asks the user about simple inputs, then comes the next phase inputs are passed to the MATLAB code for arithmetic processes, these processes result in giving us back our required important output data needed for analysis process in just a second. An economical study for a 750 mw plant will be carried out to show how energy saving is achieved by, in addition to analysis the impact of power plant emission on human health and the environment.
