INTRODUCTION
The solution of all the problems mentioned above is to have a system which is mobile in real sense.
So that a person don’t depend upon one machine .
I think ,also there arises a need of an application that can cover any programs and show the things to users irrespective of which platform they are on .
So the only solution is internet .
What internet? Are u fool?
How an internet can be used as an operating system?
What are you saying anshul? Etc…………..
But I am saying why not?
According to him “ but the real deal breaker is trust : are you going to let someone else handle all your data? If you use a google –served computing environment, everything you upload, download, or type potentially passes through google’s computer. I’ll be the first to sign in ,but that’s my blind faith in statistics. If there ‘s a privacy breach at google ,I figure I’ll be about 10 millionth in line to get hurt. How about it: would you trust google to protect your e-mail, your tax document ,and your family photos?”
But if u come to know about this WEBTOP you will not say this .so let’s start.
Our primary idea is to have an “internetOS” . Is the world ready for an online operating system? Or something pretty close to that idea? With the spread of high speed broadband and powerful computer, someone can think that a lot of individual consumers and business might be ready for an almost total online presence, has this WEBTOP as a nice solution.
HISTORY
Researchers at UC barkely were among the first to explore the possibilities of a web based operating system, with the Web OS project, started in mid-90s. the project , part of a wider initiative called Berkely Network of workstations(NOW),was designed to create a set of system resources that could be used in a geographically distributed way. At the turn of decade, the frenzy around online application service provision reached its height. Services such as desktop .com and MywebOS were offering online desktops to consumers but the world was not ready and such ideas were crashed .
Now, with web 2.0 players preaching a more grown up, sustainable platform for commercial ventures, several players are hoping that WEBTOPS will become viable. Most of them offering proprietary systems that bear only a passing resemblance to windows (in the sense that they have a windowing GUI ).
FACTORS ON WHICH WEBTOP NEED TO LOOK YET
However, very truly new operating system suffers from a serious and technical fatal problems: a lack of applications. And when applications finally come to the new OS, they do not compare favorably to mature applications from the more established platforms. So there are some factors where a webtop need to work yet. These are:
1. a webtop can’t work offline. There are some OS like XIOS which can downland and use off-line but this feature is not provided with any other OS.
2. a webtop can work at a high speed on a broadband connection.
3. it can’t work with dial-up connection.
4. everytime you want to access your data, you need the internet connection working properly.
CONCLUSION
I WOULD LIKE TO CONCLUDE MY SEMINAR WITH THESE WORDS:
• The webtop is a technology that changing the era with growth of web application and maturation of high speed internet we can now have a truly portable and personalized operating system.
• Web browser is one of the most versatile application in IT. It is the catalytic converter that can take any application and display it to users irrespective of which they are on. That’s why just about every application today is accessible through a web browser.
