Introduction
With the growing demand of electric power, the
transmission as well as distribution system is expanding continuously. This results in high level of short-circuit currents and occurrence of faults also.
Among the power stability voltage stability plays a major role.
The voltage instability in network will effect both transmission and distribution network
D- FACTS
Thyristor based FACTS controllers are latest controllers technology implemented in power system to maintain voltage stability.
The well known FACTS controller devices are namely SVC, STATCOM, TCSC, SSSC and UPFC.
Apart from FACTS D- Facts is the emerging technology which is still under research.
It is an alternative solution which is cost effective power flow control.
The D-FACTS controller devices are Distributed Series Impedance(DSI), Distributed Series Reactor(DSR), Distributed Static Series Compensator(DSSSC), D- STATCOM.
Distributed Static Series Compensator
DSSC consist of a small single phase inverter(approx 10 kva), single turn transformer, power supply circuits, associated control and built in communication capability
Here inverter can inject a voltage into the AC line to simulate a positive and negative reactance .
DC bus voltage regulation is maintained through a small in phase voltage component same as active filter controller
DSSCs are series power flow control D-FACTS devices which change the effective impedance of transmission lines through the use of active impedance injection with a synchronous voltage source
Conclusion
FACTS and D-FACTS application in present Power System
Devices used in D-FACTS are DSSC, DSR DSI.
