DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF ALUMINIUM ALLOY WHEEL
ABSTRACT
Importance of wheel in the automobile is obvious. The vehicle(car) may be towed without the engine but at the same time even that is also not possible without the wheels, the wheels along the tyre has to carry the vehicle load, provide cushioning effect and cope with the steering control. The main requirements of an automobile wheel are; Aluminum is a metal with features of excellent lightness, thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, characteristics of casting, low temperature, machine processing and recycling, etc. This metals main advantage is reduced weight, high accuracy and design choices of the wheel. This metal is useful for energy conservation because it is possible to re-cycle aluminum easily. The problem stated here is to analyze the stress and the displacement distribution for the given specifications by the company, on the aluminum alloy wheel (stated by the standards of SAE J 175-Impact test procedure and ISO 7141-Road vehicle wheels impact test procedure), which was newly designed. There are many different types of loading conditions that can be adopted for finding the stress and displacement distributions, here in the project work, the loading conditions for finding the stress and displacement on the wheel. As in the case of an automobile wheel maximum load to be applied on the alloy wheel. Proper analysis of the wheel plays an important role for the safety of the passenger cars. This project deals with the analysis of the wheel, as explained in the previous chapters. Three types of analysis are performed (i.e. Static, Modal, Dynamic analysis).
