DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SHIFT REGISTERS
AIM:
To design and implement Serial in Serial out, Serial in Parallel out, Parallel in Parallel out
and Parallel in Serial out Shift Registers using JK Flip Flops.
THEORY:
A register is capable of shifting its binary information in one or both directions is known
as shift register. The logical configuration of shift register consist of a JK-Flip flop cascaded with
output of one flip flop connected to input of next flip flop. All flip flops receive common clock
pulses which causes the shift in the output of the flip flop. The simplest possible shift register is
one that uses only flip flop. The output of a given flip flop is connected to the input of next flip
flop of the register. Each clock pulse shifts the content of register one bit position to right.
PROCEDURE:
1. Connections are given as per the circuit diagram on the bread board.
2. The power supply is switched ON and set a voltage of 5 Volts.
3. If the input to be given to a gate is logic ‘1’ then it is connected to +5 Volts and if the input to be given to the gate is logic ‘0’ then the particular input terminal is connected to ground.
4. Truth tables of various Shift Registers are verified.
5. If the output is logic ‘1’ then the LED glows, if the output is logic ‘0’ then the LED does not glow.
