Abstracts: The present project relates to the state of the art survey, scheme of design and tests for improving productivity of solar stills which are a type of passive device for producing pure water through distillation using day time solar energy and night time radiative cooling. The design scheme attempts to segregate mutually conflicting evaporation and condensation process in a single chamber and carry them out in separate chamber more effectively. Both the heat gain during day and cooling achieved during night are conserved in separate chambers for carrying over to the subsequent diurnal cycles unlike in the conventional solar still where both effects are lost mostly over a diurnal cycle. Current project covers the proposed scheme of enhancing productivity of conventional basin type solar still, constructing a working model of solar still and night sky radiative cooler to estimate their capabilities. Integrating both solar still and night sky radiative cooler unit and detailed testing are left for future development work.
