Abstracts: The project titled DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF OMNI WHEELS aims to provide Multi-directional wheels which provide reliable performance for a wide range of applications such as Material Handling System, Conveyor Transfer, Mobile Furniture, appliances and Work Benches, Shopping Trolleys and Luggage, Pipe Rollers and Tube Rollers, Ball Transfer Unit Alternatives, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) , Robotics and other applications requiring precision omni-directional maneuverability. OMNI wheels aims to provide a simple robust wheel, mounted in a fixed position yet capable of incredible 360 degree movement and rotation with the body manufactured from engineering polymers and poly-urethene over- moulded rollers integrated in to the wheel structure. o So how does a robot that can move Omni-directionally work? The trick is that it uses special wheels . . . The Omni-wheel is not actually just a single wheel, but many wheels in one. There is the big core wheel, and along the peripheral there are many additional small wheels that have the axis perpendicular to the axis of the core wheel. The core wheel can rotate around its axis like any normal wheel, but now that there are additional wheels perpendicular to it, the core wheel can also move parallel to its own axis.
