Abstracts: An air handler, or air handling unit (often abbreviated to AHU), is a device used to condition and circulate air as part of a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. • The basic function of the AHU is take in outside air, condition it and supply fresh air to a building. All exhaust air is discharged, which secures an acceptable indoor air quality. •Depending on the required temperature of the conditioned air, the fresh air is either heated by a recovery unit or heating coil, or cooled by a cooling coil. All standard air handlers are designed to move a certain amount of air typically 400 cubic feet per minute (CFM) for 1 ton of refrigeration. The units sizes range from small modular units of 2000 CFM to large custom built units of 30000 CFM and higher.
