Abstracts: The Bluetooth technology is a wireless communication that operates as radio waves, using a band set at 2.4GHz. This frequency is available at no charge. It is a short-range wireless technology originally intended as a cable replacement. It is a low-cost, low-power wireless standard, which boasts a theoretical maximum baud rate of approximately 750 kbps. It is standardized wireless, meaning that a high level of compatibility among devices is guaranteed. Bluetooth will connect devices to each other, even if they aren’t the same model. It can send various types of information such as music, video, and data to other Bluetooth-capable devices located within 10 meters. The above project encompasses a Bluetooth based data acquisition system, in which the data from a sensor is given to an Atmel AVR Micro-controller and that data is transferred to remote terminal via Bluetooth. Using only RS232 does not allow us to access a remote terminal since it is basically a wired system only. The advantage of using Bluetooth is at it decreases Hardware complexity as system becomes wirelesses, and also offers the flexible operation. In this project we’ll use Bluetooth V2.0 Class 2 module, which includes AUBTM-20 Bluetooth core, which operates on 3.3v power supply. This module consists on chip strip antenna. In this module we plan to use a foot print converter since the package of AUBTM 20 isn’t suitable to be wired on a general purpose board. It supports UART, USB, PCM, I2C interface to host (central processing unit) system. Here we will want to interface the module with the host through the UART port since it reduces the complexity and makes the protocol implementation much easier. There will be a possibility of having a secure connection between the CPU and the AUBTM-20 with the option of using a pairing pin. Thus data transmission will be secure enough. Thus using the intended system we can transmit data from microcontroller to remote devices (handheld or PC) using Bluetooth and thus observe the whole system from any where within the range of Bluetooth.
