Abstracts: Gears are one of the most critical components in mechanical power transmission system. The contact stress and bending strength of the gear tooth are considered to be one of the main contributors for the failure of the gear in a gear set. Thus, analysis of stresses has become popular as an area of research on gears to minimize or to reduce the failures for optimal design of gears. In this project we emphasis an improving the surface contact area of worm and gear tooth. So that the bending stress in gear tooth reduce and heat generation also decreases and hence the power transmission increase between worm and gear. To estimate the bending stress, three-dimensional solid models are generated in PRO-Engineer that are powerful and modern solid modeling software and the numerical solution is carried out by ANSYS, which is a Finite Element Analysis package. Above information leads to the increment of efficiency and decrement of heat generation by decreasing the surface contact area between worm and gear.
