Abstracts: Recently light duty vehicles are using hydraulic brakes and heavy duty vehicles are using air brakes. Both the systems of braking require leakage proof construction and robust system. Initial cost of both systems is high. Generally all brakes are friction brakes and force is required to be applied to produce friction. An option to provide this brake is hydraulic energy, compressed air, mechanical effort etc. These all are conventional means of applying braking effort. There is a battery of 12 V or 24 V in all vehicles. We can use this electric energy as a mean of applying braking effort. One of the methods of using electric energy is to use an electromagnet. The electromagnet converts electric energy into mechanical force which is breaking effort. So, if some system is designed to use this energy from battery, lot of cost and space can be saved. It reduces the weight and complexity. Our project is to design an electromagnetic brake which consumes energy from battery.
