RESEARCH APPLICATIONS

Abstract-
This project is a prototype boat that can travel in water. The direction of the robot can be controlled by DTMF.
This can be moved forward, backward direction. Also this robot can take sharp turnings towards left and right directions
using DC Motors. This project uses AT89S52 MCU as its controller This project uses DTMF technology for controlling
Robot in a way such that near the controlling side we are provided with any type of communication device such as a mobile
phone or a landline. Now coming to the other side we are provided with the mobile phone only because a landline cannot
move accordingly with the movement of the boat. In the mobile phone we allot the number keys as our direction movements
for the Robot to move..Now when we dial the numbers in the mobile phone from the controlling side then it automatically
recognizes which number has been recorded and it follows with the corresponding next step to be taken i.e., movement of
the robot in water. This Project uses DTMF Decoder which is controlled by a battery and in turn is connected to the mobile
phone. This is controlled by the controller and is again connected to the driver circuit for driving the motor. This project
uses battery. This project is much useful for mines detection and Oceanic Research Applications.
NEED FOR DTMF DECODING:
In the premature days, our telephone systems were
operated by human operators in a telephone exchange
room. The caller will pick up the phone, giving
instruction to the operator to connect their line to the
destination. It is a kind of manual switching. As more
and more people entered in the telephone technology
as useful communication gear, manual switching
becomes a time consuming tedious task.
As technology established, pulse or dial tone
technique was invented for telephone communication
switching. It employs electronics and computer to
support switching operations. DTMF (Dual Tone
Multi Frequency) is the ultimate technique used in
any of the Mobile, Telephone communication
systems.
CRYSTAL OSCILLATOR:
A crystal oscillator is an electronic oscillator circuit
that uses the mechanical resonance of a vibrating
crystal of piezoelectric material to create an electrical
signal with a very precise frequency. This frequency
is commonly used to keep track of time (as in quartz
wristwatches), to provide a stable clock signal for
digital integrated circuits, and to stabilize frequencies
for radio transmitters and receivers. The most
common type of piezoelectric resonator used is the
quartz crystal, so oscillator circuits designed around
them became known as "crystal oscillators."
Conventionally, Wireless-controlled robots use RF
circuits, which have the drawbacks of limited
working range, limited frequency range and the
limited control. Use of a mobile phone for robotic
control can overcome these limitations. It provides
the advantage of robust control, working range as
large as the coverage area of the service provider, no
interference with other controllers and up to twelve
controllers.
Although the appearance and the capabilities of
robots vary vastly, all robots share the feature of a
mechanical, movable structure under some form of
control. The Control of robot involves three distinct
phases: perception, processing and action. Generally,
the preceptors are sensors mounted on the robot,
processing is done by the on-board microcontroller or
processor, and the task is performed using motors or
with some other actuators.
ADVANTAGES OF DTMF TECHNOLOGY:
1. Effective control of home appliances.
2. Home automation using mobile phone.
3. Increases power efficiency.
4. Increases appliances lifetime.
5. Power wastage is reduced.
CONCLUSION:
Thus, DTMF technology is of great use in Oceanic
Research as it reduces human labour & Enhances the
Researches carried out. This project is fully
automated & does not need manual interaction. Its
very useful in Mining Techniques & in Detecting Oil
Spillages in the Oceans. These Researches Enhance
the Properties of the Oceans & result in the Welfare
of sea animals & how these oceans could be used for
human welfare also. This DTMF technology is not
only used in Oceanic Research but also in Prepaid
Charging of Mobiles, Car Parking Systems, Hand-
Gesture controlled Wheel Chairs & can still be
implemented for many other real time purposes.
Hence, we see how DTMF is becoming a developing
technology which could raise the Standard of our
lives & Enhance our lives.
