REGULATIONS FOR ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS 1997EDITION
This edition supersedes the ‘WIRING REGULATIONS FOR ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION AND APPROVED CODE OF PRACTICE IN DUBAI' issued in the year 1985 by the then DUBAI ELECTRICITY COMPANY.
The object of the Regulations is to provide Consultants, Contractors, Wiremen and Consumers with a general guide for compliance with DEWA's requirements for electric installations in order to safeguard persons and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity. The Regulations, however, are not intended to substitute detailed specifications nor to serve as an instruction manual for untrained persons. It is essential that all Consultants, Contractors and Wiremen study and abide by these Regulations. This, of course, does not absolve the concerned parties from obtaining other necessary approvals from DEWA.
Some of the practices followed generally in the AGCC Countries have been adapted as appropriate. References are generally made to the sixteenth edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations, British Standards (BS) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) documents. Consideration has been given to the prevention of fire and shock hazards as well as proper operation and maintenance of wiring installations and equipment.
