Abstracts: In this era composite materials have gained more and more attention in automotive, aerospace, structural and medical applications. The major advantage of it is high strength to weight ratio which is important in components designing. According to matrix material the composite material is mainly of polymer, metal, ceramic, carbon and graphite composites types. Although increasing development activities have led to system solutions using metal composite materials, the use of especially advanced systems, particularly in the zone of light metals has increased. The main advantages of using MMC (Metal Matrix Composite) are low density, chemical compatibility, thermal stability, high Young’s modulus, high compression and tensile strength, good process ability, economic efficiency and environment friendly etc. The AMC (Aluminium Metal Composite) is one of the best metal matrix composite for gaining high strength to weight ratio and light weight. There are so many different methods for producing AMC such as casting (infiltration), Squeeze casting (pressure infiltration), Spray co - deposition and In situ processes. Casting method or liquid state fabrication is used for producing metal matrix composite to achieve high level of mechanical properties. The simplest and most cost effective method of liquid state fabrication is Stir Casting. Now-a-days there has been an increase in interest in composites containing low cost reinforcements. Fly ash is one of most inexpensive reinforcement available in large quantity as waste product. So it helps in overcoming cost barrier for wide applications in automotive. Hardness is one of most basic mechanical property of engineering materials and hardness test is practical and provide a quick assessment and can be used as a good indicator for material selection and comparisons. So our project is dedicated to make stir casting arrangement, production of Al/Fly Ash and comparative study of hardness between pure aluminium and Al/Fly Ash.
