Abstracts: Our project titled “DESIGN OF ASSEMBLY FIXTURE FOR IMPELLER NUT MOUNTING OF VERTICAL TURBINE PUMP” deals with the testing assembly of VT pump. It compromises of Impeller-Diffuser Unit, shaft, Impeller Nut various instruments and prime mover. The major concern is Impeller Nut which is to be lifted and fixed on to shaft to mount Impeller- Diffuser Unit. Currently the Impeller Nut is devoid of any mechanism to lift it to a height and is shifted by EOT cranes. The Reasons or need of assembly fixture are:- ? The capacity of VT -pump is vary from 1100 m^3/hr. to 1, 11,000 m^3/hr. So, in order to test different ranges of pumps, the change in testing assembly is necessary. So, lifting Impeller Nut to require height changes according to the application and capacities of the pumps. ? Currently Pump Testing Team moves and lifts Impeller Nut by EOT crane conventionally. So the firm requires ease in operation and wants to design assembly fixture by incorporating mechanism to lift Impeller Nut. ? It is hazardous to lift Impeller weighing 400 to 500 Kg. with crane as they are at store away from assembly area in plant layout. There is an increase in the lead time of assembly and testing of pump. So, the main aim of the project is to design Assembly fixture including some mechanism to lift and engage Impeller Nut on shaft to fix Impeller-Diffuser unit.
