Abstracts: Hi-speed turbo drives manufactures fans, blowers , bag filters, waste heat recovery units and pneumatic conveying systems. The company manufactures tailor made blowers and the standardization of company’s product is thereby a need for inter-changeability and productivity. The standardization of blowers needs standardization of impeller, bearing , housing, hubs and flanges. The present project aims at standardizing the flanges to avoid large amount of different sizes of flanges to be prepared for varied kinds of blowers. The preparation of flanges is done by manual hot working. On the basis of sales of the past 4 years the standardization was arrived at and for each standardized flanges a standard and fixed distance between pressure roller and guide roller was prepared. These distance can be so arranged diametrically that the various diameters of flanges can be achieved. Since the flanges bending is done by manual hot forging; it was a vital need to automate the manufacturing of flanges by a specialized cold working machine to suffice the present production needs of the company. The conceptual design was finally concluded, wherein the flat section is bend at a given radius by a set of pressure roller with tailstock like mechanism in the horizontal direction and support roller in vertical direction. The speed reduction needed for the template was achieved with a combination of pulleys and gear box having a reduction ratio of 1:2 and 1:68 respectively.
