Abstracts: Branch-bend weld, is a pipe fitting used for branching of pipe and tubing systems for directing the fluid flow into various directions from the main pipe. Branch-bend is manufactured by cutting an appropriate contour from a 900 long radius (LR) elbow. Presently, two methods are used in Aditya Forge Ltd. for manufacturing the branch-bend weld. These methods have a long process/cycle time, leading to high manufacturing cost. The problems incurred in the existing manufacturing techniques can be reduced considerably by using laser cutting. The project aims at devising a Cam operated slider mechanism which will be applied on a laser cutting machine for cutting the branch-bend weld’s contour. The mechanism aims at lowering the cycle time as well as the cost of manufacturing the branch-bend than the existing methods employed in the company.
