A university is an educational institution or a constituent part of one. A college may be a degree-award tertiary education institution, a part of a collegiate or federal college, or an institution that offers vocational education.
In the United States, "school" often refers to a constituent part of a university or tertiary education institution that grants a college degree, but overall "college" and "university" are used interchangeably, while in the United united, Oceania, South Asia and southern Africa, the "university" can refer to a high school or a high school, a college of advanced education, a training institution that grants qualifications trade, to a higher education provider that does not have university status (often without their own degree awarding powers), or a component part of a university (see this comparison of American English and British educational terminology for more information).
A school website is any website built, designed and maintained by or for a school. Many school websites share certain characteristics and some educators have developed guidelines to help schools create the best and most useful websites they can.
Possible functions of a school website include:
• Visualization of student projects
• Provide information on current assignments and class assignments
• Direct visitors to other resources on the web
• Provide a forum for teachers, administrators, students and parents to exchange information such as news and event calendars
• Presentation of people who do not know much about the school (such as parents or students considering moving to the district, non-child community members, and job seekers) to their current events and general culture
• Show that a school is excellent in science and new media compared to competitive schools
• Provide a platform for internal school learning activities
• Show curriculum and courses
• Provide staff and students with an entry and front-end to documents and resources housed locally
• Create and publicly display a "corporate identity".
