Q1) QRS Detection: Pan-Tompkins Algorithm
Implement the Pan-Tompkins Algorithm method for QRS detection in MATLAB. You
may employ a simple threshold-based method to detect QRS complexes as the procedure
will be run off-line. Apply the procedure to the files: ECG3.dat, ECG4.dat, ECG5.dat and
ECG6.dat sampled at 200Hz. Compute the average heart rate and QRS width for each
data set. Verify your results by measuring the parameters visually from the plots.
Q2) EEG Analysis: The files eeg1-xx.dat (where xx indicated the channel name) gives
eight simultaneously recorded channels of EEG signals with the alpha rhythm. The
sampling rate is 100Hz per channel.
(a) Cut out a portion of a signal with a clear presence of alpha rhythm for use as a
template or reference signal. Perform cross-correlation of the template with
the short-time windows of the channels and study the use of the results for the
detection of the presence of the alpha rhythm.
(b) Compute the PSDs of a few channels of the EEG using Welch’s method.
Study the changes in the PSDs derived with variations in the window width,
the number of segments averaged and the type of window used. Compare the
results with the PSDs computed using the entire signal in each channel.
Discuss your results in terms of the effects of the procedures and parameters
on spectral leakage.
