The current development of the hotel industry in Bulgaria is characterized by imposing the global trend towards a considerable quantitative excess of supply on demand. As a consequence of this, the hotel industry has been developing under conditions of a strongly competitive business environment. Statistical data show that during the last five years (the period 2002-2007) the material basis of the hotel industry in Bulgaria has developed extremely dynamically. For the specified period, the number of hotels has increased by more than 52%, and the number of beds in them - by 43%. 2. One of the main characteristics of the Bulgarian hotel industry is the high level of material elements. In the general category structure of hotels, the middle and upper class (3, 4 and 5 stars) predominate. Its share represents more than half of the total number of hotels in Bulgaria (around 51%) with a tendency to increase . The similar level of material parameters means that competition between the separate economic units is carried out mainly with respect to the service performance process. The above features have made the hotel service process one of the most discussed topics in Bulgaria's tourist industry in recent years. In this regard, we consider that the issue, related to the problems of the service provision process in Bulgarian hotels, is a matter of current interest and concerns the Bulgarian tourist business.
