ABSTRACT
Editors
Editors are the programs which help computer users to enter text, programs, or data on the file system of a computer. Files containing text, programs, or data are stored in secondary storage device and updated by the general-purpose system software program called “EDITOR”.
The Editors may be simple with limited range of operations or may be powerful with sophisticated commands. Editors are broadly classified as:
• Line Editors.
• Screen Editors.
• Graphics Editors.
Line Editors and Screen Editors are used for handling text, whereas Graphics Editors are used for handling pictures.
Graphics Editors are of two types:
• 2D Graphics Editors.
• 3D Graphics Editors.
2D Graphics Editor
These Editors are used to draw 2D pictures ( Line, Rectangle, Circle, Ellipse ), alter those with operations like Cut, Copy, Clip. These may also support features like Translation, Rotation etc.
A simple 2D Graphics Editor should include the following features:
• Facilities: Cursor Movement, Editing picture objects (point, line, circle, box, arc, ellipse, spiral, polygon).
• Good User Interface: GUI / Iconic / Menu based User Interface.
