Method of Preparation:
The first mentioned group of herbs is put into the grinder, after inspection for foreign matter and their removal. A fine powder is collected after sieving. This powder is triturated in a Kharal adding the liquid extracts of the herbs mentioned later in the formula. When thick paste develops, it is made into tablets using necessary excipients.
Report of Chemical Analysis:
• Betula pendula: Bhurjapatra: bark: Lupeol, betulin, oleanolic acid and betulic acid isolated from bark (Phytochemistry, 1973, 12, 214); isolation and structure of kerachic acid from bark (Chem.Abstr. 1976, 84, 135869v).
• Terminalia belerica - Fruits contain about 17% tannin substances ( Chem. Abstr. 1951, 10497).
• Terminalia chebula - Fruits cintain about 30% of an astringent
• substance; astringency is due to the characteristic principle chebulinic acid; also contain tannic acid ( 20- 40 %) gallic acid, resin etc., and some purgative principle of the nature of anthraquinone (I. P. C., 155; U.S.D., 1529).
• Berberis aristata: Rasaunt: Root bark: rich in alkloid content, berberine principal alk. (Sci. & Cult., 1941, 613).
• Quercus infectoria: Majuphal: gall: Methyl betulate, methyl oleanolate and sitosterol isolated from galls (Phytochemistry, 1973, 12,214); syringic, gallic and ellagic acids isolated from galls ((Planta Med. 1977,31, 286).
