Effect of temperature on mycelial growth of Pleurotus spp.
ABSTRACT
Mycelial growth pattern of various isolates of nine Pleurotus viz. P. flabellatus, P. Ostreatus, P. florida, P. cystidiosus, P. fossulatus ,P. eryngii , P.hypsizygus, P.citrinopileatus and P.sapidus was recorded at five different temperatures viz. 15o, 20o, 25o, 28o and 32oC. Data in terms of colony colour, diameter and growth patterns were recorded after five days of incubation at various temperatures. A temperature range of 25-28oC was observed to be the optimum for most of the Pleurotus isolates except P. pulmonarius which preferred a temperature of 32oC for its optimum mycelial growth. In the present study, colony diameter and growth patterns showed variation among various spp. ranging from white cottony to white silky showing sparse and thick growth patterns at the periphery and in the middle.
