Effects of Traffic Congestion on JIT-Supply of Items: An Indian Scenario
In road transport, the lack of proper terminals and transhipment facilities lead to losses. A
typical warehouse or distribution centre ships material to various customer locations across
the country by various modes of transport, such as: air freight, economy air freight, parcel,
less than truck load (LTL) shipments, and full truck load (FTL) shipments. Each mode has
different limits on the maximum weight of a shipment, different cost structures, and different
transportation times. Each customer order has a delivery window (i.e., an earliest date and
latest date for its arrival at the customer) associated with it. It is often possible to consolidate
different orders for the same customer location into a single shipment.
