INTRODUCTION
*Day by day the height of buildings is increasing therefore for transportation purpose some device should be there which can transport people and goods from one floor another floor.
*Thus elevator fulfills this need. Elevator is a vertical transportation device which is used for transporting people or goods from one floor to another.
*Elevator is also very useful in hospitals to carry patients from one floor to operation theater or respective wards.
*Elevators are also used in mines for transportation of workers and goods.
SHAPE AND SIZE OF THE CAR
*Car is that part of the elevator which carries passengers or goods.
*The size of the car is mainly dependent on the two factors-
a. Number of passengers to be carried.
b. Limitations in the building design.
*While selecting the size of car it is usual practice to allow a space of 2 sq. ft. per person.
*Thus the maximum load capacity of the elevator is considered on the basis of 75 1bs/sq. ft.
*In this case the average weight of a passenger is assumed to be 150 1bs (68kg).
*Wide front provides ample door opening further which facilitates quick transfer to passengers at floor levels.
Elevator motors
#The main requirement of the elevator is high starting torque along with rapid acceleration and retardation.
#therefore to insure this the inertia of the moving parts must be kept as low as possible.
#to achieve this elevator motors are designed with smaller diameter of armatures.
#also the speed of motor should not exceed than 900 rpm.
#D.C. is capable of rapid acceleration and deceleration with jerks.
SAFETY PRECAUTION
1. Don’t open door when you are trapped in elevator. Push alarm button and be patient till trained rescue team comes.
2. Don’t attempt to climb/come out of elevator.
3. Turn off elevator main switch before commencing rescue operation.
4. Entrust elevator maintenance to reputed companies give TOP PRIORITY TO SAFETY AND QUALITY.
5. Stay calm and don’t panic.
6. Communicate to outside world.
7. Be patient.
