Process Vessels
It is desired to design a horizontal cylinder with hemispherical heads to handle a liquid with a volume of 16 m3. Find its dimensions if it will be quarter full and its L/D ratio is 2.5.
Solution:
Volume of tank = Volume of a sphere + Volume of a Cylinder
Volume of tank = 4 (16 m3) = 64 m3
Pressure Vessels
It is an inspection process whereby welded joints are examined by X-ray equipment sufficiently powerful to reveal excessive porosity, points of defective fusion and other defects.
Piping System
Pipes are on the inside diameter and is specified by a nominal diameter wherein the thickness is given by a gage (Birmingham Wire Gage and United States Standard Gage). It is usually made by welding, casting or piercing and has a relatively large size range. True or False?
