ABSTRACT
In recent years the subject of flying vehicles propelled by flapping wings, also known as ornithopters, has been an area of interest. we have developed a large scale ornithopter which is capable of carrying all control systems and sensor package and takes special care to optimize payload capacity, crash survivability. The material we have used for wings and tail proves its ability to withstand crashes. The required flapping frequency is decided according to the weight of bird and flapping is achieved by using slider crank mechanism.
INTRODUCTION
Ornithopters have been in area of interest because of its applications in micro areal vehicles. They have been designed to achieve good agility in flight. We have designed an ornithopter that specially takes care of optimizing the payload carrying capacity and crash survivability. Sustained steady level flight is achieved by using remote control. The ultimate goal is to produce an ornithopter so small and lifelike that it can pass as a real insect or small bird, going unnoticed as it performs its deadly mission.
MOTOR
The main drive motor is one of the important part to be selected because it makes up one of the major weight component of the drive system. The motor with high power density and high torque density is selected. According to the wingspan and the fuselage length DC Brushless gear motor is chosen.
MATERIAL USED
The body is made of carbon fiber which is more strong ant light weight that can suit our requirements. Mylar sheets are used in order to cover other parts. Carbon rods are used for linkages which makes it strong
